Need support for Ctrl, Alt and arrow keys on X10 Mini Pro #343

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
The SE X10 Mini Pro has a keyboard, but it lacks Ctrl and Alt keys, as well as
up and down arrow keys (and trackball). This limits the usability of ConnectBot
somewhat.

Repurposing existing keys would be difficult, as the Swedish keyboard on my
device only only has nine non-letter keys (number shift, symbol shift, shift,
left/right arrow, space, backspace and enter).

Perhaps it would be possible to add on-screen softkeys for the missing keys?
With a keyboard, you usually run in landscape mode, and some soft
Ctrl/Alt/Esc/arrow keys could fit on the side of the text screen.

Try the Any Keyboard from market for arrows.

Ctrl and Esc are available on-screen in the connectbot.org version.

I downloaded ConnectBot-git-2010-09-02_00-47-27-all.apk but was unable to get
on-screen Ctrl and Esc working. I am probably overlooking something.

On-screen arrow keys would be nice as well.

I second the request to fix this, as well as confusion that i downloaded a
development version and can't seem to find any on-screen display.
Another idea for things (though not sure if it's possible) is to use the number
lock (blue) key with non-supported chars, e.g. for up/down use blue-left /
blue-right. A block of 9 keys on the far-right has no alt character, so maybe
they could be used for several things.
Another thing might be to a click-hold function, e.g. click and hold c and it would send a ctrl command.

Hello, I own exavtly the same model of the Xperia X10 mini pro. I can confirm,
ConnectBot is unusable without possibility to use up/down arrow keys. I support
the solution with hotkey combination of blue key and left/right arrows. Thanks
a lot! Adam

Perhaps some tips on how to do this ourselves and to commit our
changes to the codebase?

I agree that shift-left and shift-right would be great. In the meantime, you
can move the text cursor up and down on the X10 Mini Pro by triple-tapping the
lower left corner of the screen (where 'ctrl' appears) followed by n (down) or
p (up). (More specifically, tap once anywhere on the screen to activate the
"ctrl, esc" display and then double tap on "ctrl").

I realise ths thread is for the X10 Mini Pro, but I'm having basically the same
issue on the Samsung Galaxy Tab, which also has a virtual keyboard and no
trackball (or arrow keys). The lack of arrow keys pretty much makes ConnectBot
useless, or at best very awkward.

For the Galaxy Tab, which is totally reliant on the virtual keyboard, some kind
of (optional) on-screen cursor keys would be a good solution.

Can someone confirm #10? I'm getting "ctrl, esc" on the X10 Mini Pro screen, but
neither "p" nor "n" will trigger (up)/(down).
Navigatinn through "history" without (up) is very limited, and let's face it,
this is what we would really like to do on such a mini, right…
Thanks for all the work so far you folks!

To get the CTRL/ESC I just tap the upper right corner.

Either way, "Smart Keyboard" from the market has the arrow keys and CTRL/ESC.

The free version has nags, but works just fine.
