Try installing winehq-staging instead of standard wine.
I just installed successfully on Mint 21.3, which is based on Ubuntu 22.04, as is Pop_OS. So I THINK these instructions should work for you too, but don't hold me to it. https://linuxways.net/mint/setup-wine-linux-mint-21/ . You want method 2, but where they tell you to install winehq-stable, instead you will substitute winehq-staging in that command.
Whenever i try to install it goes through everything and then hangs on this, left it for over an hour. any suggestions on how to proceed? keep in mind I'm a novice with linux. using pop os.
