Setup a blog or find a suitable one for us to post "kick-offs" regarding different technologies. Mandatory for phase 3 of this project. Your website could be perfect for this.

My brother won't allow us to post on his blog unfortunately. Medium is an alternative.

I'm thinking Wordpress or Tumblr - better than hosting your own really.

no idea why it would be better/worse than our other choices

Probably as good as Medium - both are better than hosting on our own server because it's free and we don't have to maintain it in any way - we can just make it and forget about it.
