The "rpi-update" command is not recommended, and says so when you run it.
It is only to be used when directed by someone in the engineering team.
It has many "bleeding edge" and not well tested code.
If you don't want to remove the instruction, I suggest you at the very minimum, put a warning and ensure people know what they are getting in to by installing it.
