dmap causes a segmentation fault #161

dmap added in #150 seems to have a flaw with very basic maps.

Please find set of basic assets at https://github.com/OpenTechEngine/OpenTechBFG/commits/assets and the "unnamed.map".

Line 4112 is the same as https://github.com/RobertBeckebans/RBDOOM-3-BFG/blob/master/neo/cm/CollisionModel_load.cpp#L4077 Which I would interpret as null pointer dereference. Would it be ok to if(!= NULL) { ... } or could there be something causing model not to be loaded quite as should?

I am quite sorry that the stack trace looks that horrible.

Also to be noted, this might be caused due to incomplete set of assets, which I will try to go through

it would seem that https://github.com/RobertBeckebans/RBDOOM-3-BFG/blob/master/neo/cm/CollisionModel_load.cpp#L4154 does not work as it should. If I replace that one with if (1) there will be no segfault, and maps/unnamed.cm is generated as should.

This might be because BFG uses generated/ and the writing should go perhaps there too and not under maps/ Steam version seems to have something like generated/collision/models/mapobjects/

I don't get this long message you got when I dmaped unnamed.map

I've tried it with OpenTechBFG and the same, I don't find any trouble compiling it.

i rebased the assets branch so that it has the old collision model loader available shown here https://github.com/OpenTechEngine/OpenTechBFG/commit/a764df78ddbb386aedd813db230474492afa4c43

@BielBdeLuna try on RBDoomBFG with the base directory of the assets branch, it should segfault when one does

dmap unnamed.map map unnamed.map dmap unnamed.map map unnamed.map

first time goes all ok because it generates the map as the loader does not find a generated .bcmodel. second time should segfault as the loader thinks it found something but there was no actual .cm file on the disk.

I'm sorry with the last build of both engines I still don't get that error. I tried both RBdoom3BFG and OpenTechBFG engines without any problem.

I did exactly what you told me in RBDoom3BFG:

first I erased all traces of a generated content. so no generated unnamed.bcm as well as no unnamed.cm and no unnamed.proc. just the unnamed.map file and then:

dmap unnamed.map map unnamed.map dmap unnamed.map map unnamed.map

no traces of the problem for me.

Ah did you use the "assets" branch provided asset set? It happens for me on windows too without the fix.

Entering doom_main() Exiting doom_main()

Would tell me that no because "assets" branch outputs:

Executing doom_main() Executed doom_main()

and quite many other warnings, even though it's standalone set now. One should be therefore able to load it as base.

I would guess that when having more than the basic set there will be always some binary .bcmodel available so loading wont return a null pointer.

Could you show the contents of generated?

So no collision models there not even a directory for those.. and currently I think we don't even have a writer for them.. so one would need to go through the reader code and implement a writer based on that

but you still have the resource files available somewhere there

it shouldn't say loaded on any resource files neither there should be previously defined errors :)

now I got the segmentation fault. but I had to discard literally anything and just use the assets as base. with massive errors everywhere. indeed the segmentation fault happened the second time. but also map unamed didn't load the map either.

now that I can test my old mod folders where I have bigger maps, I get this segmentation fault error every time I try to access a newly compiled map,

usually the segmentation fault happen when I get a new weapon, or I kill a monster, or a monster sees me. I can play the map but suddenly I get thrown out of the engine with this error

what I do is restart the engine manually (I exit the game), then that error doesn't show up again while playing the whole level unless I dmap or testmap again.
