Flair puck is not sending updates to Home Assistant when changes made using the puck #67

Closed singleoxfarm closed 10 months ago

singleoxfarm commented 10 months ago

When making thermostat changes suck as temperature or off/on at the puck, Home Assistant is not receiving updates and the data on the dashboard is stale. Is there a way to fix this occurrence?

Thank you!

RobertD502 commented 10 months ago

Can you elaborate a little bit more?

I'm assuming you mean when you change the set point on your thermostat you're looking for the puck temperature sensor entity to reflect that?

If that is the case, it won't. The temperature sensor entity listed under the puck device reflects the current temperature reading from the puck and not the set point.

Since pucks are tied to a Flair room, you will see the set point change reflected in the climate entity located under the Flair Room "Device" in Home Assistant (Assuming you have your Flair structure System mode set to Auto and not Manual).

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by on/off - if you're referring to changing the mode on your thermostat to heat, cool, off, etc., this change will be reflected in the Flair Structure Device's climate entity in Home Assistant.

singleoxfarm commented 10 months ago

No the Puck setting is not updating to the home assistant instance if changed at the puck. I am aware the remote if used on the unit, the puck is controlling will not update the puck setting. I get that😀. The only change I made to the system is the puck now controls the cassette unit directly instead of through its wired thermostat. This should have no effect on how the puck is communicating with Home Assistant. I do have the unit set to manual because it does not control any other devices in the room. But the puck should still report changes back to home assistant, correct? Any thoughts?

Are you trying to control a mini split unit?

Please explain in detail what it is exactly that you're changing on the puck/method you're employing. As far as I know, the only thing that you can change physically via the puck itself is the set point by rotating it.

In addition, go into the Flair app and click on the Flair Room that contains the puck/mini split unit - please share a photo of this screen.

singleoxfarm commented 10 months ago

Yes that is correct. Any change made at the puck such as unit off or thermostat temp setting is not updating in the Home assistant instance. No issue controlling the puck itself from the Home Assistant instance.

No need to be in front of your unit. I'm just curious as to what entity in Home Assistant you're looking at/are expecting to see the change reflected on.

What is the state of that climate entity?

RobertD502 commented 10 months ago

I see what you're saying about the puck - this seems to be a Flair issue.

I changed my system mode to manual and then changed my set point from 74 to 70 on the puck. Looking at the Flair app, the set point doesn't change to 70 and instead remains at 74. In addition, when changing the set point on the puck from 74 to 70, the puck immediately reverts back to its original 74 set point. Since the puck reverts back when attempting to change a set point/the set point doesn't change even in the Flair app, this indicates is that it is a bug on Flair's end.

Interestingly enough, if you change the set point on the app itself, the puck accepts this new set point.

I'd reach out to Flair customer service with your concerns.

singleoxfarm commented 10 months ago

Exactly. Glad I’m not the only one seeing this. I don’t really have any reason to run in auto since it is a line puck, but it sounds like I should in order for the updates to be sent to Home Assistant?

Nope doesn't work in auto either. In auto it should change the Flair "Room" set point that the puck is associated with, but even when trying in auto mode, the puck reverts/the change isn't showing up in the Flair app.

So, this is something that will require Flair to be fixed.

I submitted the requests for the communication issue between the puck and the Flair app to Flair. In regards to the issue for updates of state in Home Assistant, this is the response I received: “This looks to be an issue with HA not querying the API fast enough or accurately and providing stale/false data. It's not an issue with Flair's API.”

Yeah, no this isn't correct at all. Home Assistant's polling speed has nothing to do with the fact that changing the set temp on the puck isn't sticking.

For example: you could completely disable the Home Assistant integration, change the temp on the puck, and use only their app - you'd still see that the temp change you made on the puck isn't being reflected on the Flair Mobile App.

Who at Flair was it that you spoke with?

Edit: would you mind sharing a video here of you rotating the puck to change the set point? This will allow me to confirm that you're experiencing the same issue that I see with the set point reverting back to the previous set point on the puck.

@singleoxfarm You wouldn't happen to have the "Lock Puck" setting enabled for the puck?
