7 months ago We will need to talk between TC to give you a proper answer, but I will share few things explaining our choice from our previous discussions. The main reason for this change was to get more dynamic handling. We completely agree, this is going against the FIFA rulebook. It's a temporary change to promote more passing. Scoring from the kick-off is also more easy in the SPL than with human player without indirect.
One thing that concern me is you don't mention that both teams are concerned, even if they don't have the kick. Which is an aberration to Law 8. That's intended and maybe we need to make more emphasis on that.
About the Challenge Shield, it was decided to delay the change by a year, which to in my opinion isn't really needed.
Also, this change is accidentally very convenient with the visual signal as it prevent a direct goal in case not all robots are in position.
It is a little bit strange that the kick-off is indirect again in the Champions Cup, which means that in this aspect the rules of the Challenge Shield are closer to the FIFA rulebook (Law 8) than the ones of the Champions Cup:
In addition, in the Challenge Shield there are less field players that could prevent the opponent from scoring directly from kick-off. So in the sub-league, where scoring is easier, it is allowed, and where scoring is harder, it is forbidden.
I would suggest to keep the old rule for the kick-off in the Champions Cup (and maybe add the part with the corner kick), because we should not do rule changes that distance us further from the FIFA rules.
