I though about concept of shallow rivers. Basically, it would be a river which will allow vehicles to drive over or stay on it in cost of massive movement cost (like 3 or even more). As for boats, only the smallest would be able to cross it (or maybe not even them?).

You can sort of use dry rivers (found in the desert tiles section) for this purpose, even if they don't look like flowing rivers.

But yeah, I've wondered about that too, it's a fun idea. Keep in mind that rivers are annoying to implement because of the sheer amount of animated orientations they can be placed in.

Actually, I got this idea from watching Mangs play "Advance Wars Alpha". It's basically a custom rom that adds a bunch of new COs, custom campaign, units, mechanics and e.t.c. And one of the mechanic this rom introduced is an abillity for vehicles to cross rivers for a hight movement cost.

You could make a mod that changes the movement cost for rivers. The Commander Wars Discord server would be a great place to find help for that.
