5 years ago fixed by the following steps:

install tools required $ sudo apt install g++ build-essential git mongodb curl python-minimal capnproto libcapnp-dev

install nvm $ curl -o- https://raw.githubusercontent.com/creationix/nvm/v0.34.0/install.sh | bash then close the teminal and reopen it to enable nvm command

install node $ nvm install 8.11.4 $ node -v it should output "v8.11.4"

install meteor $ curl https://install.meteor.com/ | sh

get rocket.chat code $ git clone https://github.com/RocketChat/Rocket.Chat.git

install modules $ cd Rocket.Chat $ meteor npm install

do post install work $ meteor npm run postinstall $ meteor npm install sharp chai webpack postcss postcss-syntax postcss-load-config fibers capnp
