jitsi calls have no ring tone or popup sound #17124

Closed holzfelix closed 1 year ago

holzfelix commented 4 years ago

Hi we use the current version of rocket, When a jitsi call is started the opposite side has neither a ringtone is played nor does it indicate that someone is calling. Also, no Bing like a message.

Is there a solution for this?

Thanks in advance.

hogthrob commented 4 years ago

This is one of the biggest issue we have with Rocket.Chat reported by most users. Video Chats (via Jitsi in our case, but this probably applies to BigBlueButton integration, too ) are not really announced properly. Users want it to behave like a "phone call", with proper notification and "ring" sound. It should be distinguished from a simple message arrival. Many of these invitations go unnoticed. Quite annoying.

dombg1337 commented 4 years ago

Yes we have the same problem!

This ticket is super important for us aswell. A solution in the near future would be appreciated!

Thank you!

grimuz commented 4 years ago

also waiting for a solution to this problem. It happens frequently that users of our rocket-chat server are reporting this issue to us sys-admins.

ChristianRosenzweig commented 4 years ago

This issue is very essential for me. Rocket chat would be the perfectly integrated team communiction suite if this issue is fixed!

nathanael-h commented 4 years ago

For your information, on this PR someone from Rocket.Chat team says that they might add this: PR https://github.com/RocketChat/Rocket.Chat/pull/13595

holzfelix commented 4 years ago

That would be amazing! Thanks for the information

This is still an issue!

seppultra commented 4 years ago

Any news here?

holzfelix commented 4 years ago

would be important for me as well

codefist commented 4 years ago

this would be absolutely YUGE

poorhoseini commented 4 years ago

Any good news for call notification?

pavel-holub commented 3 years ago

I am also waiting for a solution.

rolexam commented 3 years ago

Мы тоже ждем!

lequy1010 commented 3 years ago

It's a very important feature for users, rocket.chat hasn't responded to this in a long time :(

amirhmoradi commented 3 years ago

We are facing this issue , and it is really a huge pain. Please update.

adocampo commented 3 years ago

After a year of extensive testing, creation of bots and webhooks which makes RC great, I've almost convinced my boss to get rid of skype in all the company in favor of RC, but when he made a call to a manager, and she didn't answer the call because she didn't notice it, my boss stopped the migration... because now, in the pandemic, when everybody works from home, we talk a lot with each other, and many users doesn't warn by chat they are going to call, and they simply call.

That's a real PITA, and as I can see here, not just for me. I saw on jitsi site sound notifications are implemented, so I wonder why isn't brought that feature to RC yet, as, as dumb as it can be, is one of those fancy features expected to be on a modern chat application with calls. Having a PR 2 years old which solves it, it would be great dev team can manage to make it work soon.

@rodrigok any update on your side, please?

adocampo commented 3 years ago

I see is in the roadmap for version 4.1.0, but there is no ETA for this release. It was tagged for the 0.69.0 milestone back in 2016, and being 5 years on the roadmap doesn't seem to be a good signal. I really hope to see it soon as is a ridiculously needed feature without which videoconferences are almost useless.

holzfelix commented 3 years ago

Would be amazing! We need this feature as well. Slack, Mattermost, Discord ... each of them has this feature from day 1 ...

banoleb commented 3 years ago

Hi all, also waiting for a solution to this problem. The only notification that was - a blinking icon next to the channel, but in version 3. * it disappeared. So both integrations (jitsi and bbb) became practically impossible to use. image

la851tzi commented 3 years ago

It's a very important feature for users!

HoffErik-JohnerInst commented 3 years ago

Would be a great feature, please add this!!!!!

P4inty commented 3 years ago

Really hoping to see some progress here soon! Waiting for this feature since using rocket.chat...

poorhoseini commented 3 years ago

I think all people need this feature so please develop it!

dombg1337 commented 3 years ago

We would highly appreciate this feature as well and as I can see, there are many others too!

tom666-debug commented 3 years ago

... getting no feedback at all or an official statment is even more frustating. Can someone please confirm that this working with Mattermost.

adocampo commented 3 years ago

I agree. I think at least a RC dev should hang by here and say something, from 'we are having an internal discussion about implementing this' to 'this won't come on the foreseen future', so we can start trying other chat alternatives or wait for your basic feature. Letting us in the dark is the most frustrating as the months are passing.

codefist commented 3 years ago

If any developer on this project is NOT working on this feature, they are wrong. This is the ONLY thing that needs attention until it's done. The lack of this feature alone is preventing millions of people from using rocketchat daily as their main bread-and-butter company chat. The fact that this isn't happening means that this project has no leadership and/or is abandonware. Ironically there's a stupid simple temporary solution available. Ready rocketchat for a brilliant solution that will make 100's of thousands immediately rejoice? all you have to do is add a "RING" button to DM/channel windows that will cause all clients involved to ring. Make it have a sane timeout, like 15 seconds + let the users silence it immediately. You can do this completely out-of-band of any integration with voice stuff. Users will go fucking berserk over this simple temporary solution, even if they have to manually press the "ring" button after they drop their jitsi urls. This could also have the side benefit of allowing co-workers to be extra assertive and make sure chat messages get noticed if something is urgent.

csranasinghe commented 3 years ago

Hi all, Sorry for being late to the party. I will try to reproduce the issue and will do a bit of research about this implementation.

tom666-debug commented 3 years ago

I wouldn't call it an issue, its more a kind of a feature request. But thanks for having a look.

jesperordrup commented 3 years ago

This issue is also on the top of our request list. I'm being relative new to the rocket chat scene as we just last week installed a selfhosted Rocket chat server. It seems that many request this and it will probably happen.

But until then let me ask/investigate: wouldnt it be totally possible to make a /slash command that starts a ringtone in channel and open the call? Or a bot that listens in all channels for the "Click to join!" msg and then makes some noise. Both with a button to stop of course :-)

codefist commented 3 years ago

It's best to give up. The devs have abandoned rocketchat and so should you.

Hi folks I'm the product manager of Team Collaboration squad. The ringing functionality was designed last month and we have a target to develop it this quarter. We are still evaluating it, but It's supposed to be EE-only.

jesperordrup commented 3 years ago

Hi @milton-rucks and thanks for info.

We are still evaluating it, but It's supposed to be EE-only.

The ringing functionality is basic need. A missing feature, maybe even a bug.

Isnt EE features something that has to do with "bigger" features that only is EE requirements such as "LDAP Enhanced sync", next level SLA etc?

rfakit commented 3 years ago

any news? this is still a huge problem

This is a joke isn't it? It is getting really hard to resist switching to MS Teams if the most basic features are behind a paywall (the last of this feature was mentioning of teams!)

This would be a great feature. Needed to fight ms teams dominance. If business has to leave Skype, only teams is the direct alternative. If RC has a decent calls service a lot of companies would prefear RC, Simple, fast and privacy oriented. If a call is unseen because a lost notification, people get angry and first comment is: this software does not work. Tons of great features, but a missed call is worst that crashing. I would only explain how Is important this feature in user experience.

jesperordrup commented 2 years ago

Rocket chat is a great In many ways. Can't call it abandonware just because we can't get feature this or that. Even if it is frustrating. Having said that .. Rocket.chat marketing do promise a lot. If you go to the Frontpage of rocket.chat website you'll find this:

"Rocket.Chat does everything other platforms do, except exposing your data."

It really should stipulate more clearly that rocket.chat is a reduced product pushing EE by only offering key features to EE.

A ding thing as an EE feature? Thanks - you couldn't make your intentions more clear. And it makes me doubt choosing RC. What's next? The ding notifications when sending regular messages or other simple stuff? It's not "free" for anyone to choose rocket.chat as a platform as it's rolled out, integrated with your org and tech. But then I should buy EE? I could, I might. At some point. But you do offer a free version and you do say that it does everything ..

I'm getting nervous about rocket.chat. doesn't feel right

It is not relevant for EE or community in my opinion. A company need support and would pay for good software. Price could be important when you have slack or teams against you, and you are ten times smaller in market share than competitors. RC can remove free version but EE should should have right price for all sized companies and best user experience ever to became a real competitor. Slack have less features than RC but does everything with no dubt. Skype will disappear next years... Could be the right time...

jesperordrup commented 2 years ago

Pulling the plug on our rocket.chat server and returning to slack .. its sad. Theres a lot of good stuff in rocket.chat but we miss the easy workflow for meetings too much.

At least they have a good sense of humor .... Guess it's time for me to switch to Matrix/Element.

jesperordrup commented 2 years ago

Matrix/Element ... just googled it. Mind exploded... where is the catch

krimlon commented 2 years ago

how has this gone for 2 years with no updates?

solutionprovider9174 commented 2 years ago

I am also wanting this perfect feature. we had to use rocketchat for our product on baimaware.com And got react native app customizing also. but ringtone is not working. Any good updates?

als999 commented 2 years ago

I would be very grateful if you could create this function in the following program updates I believe that this is very important for all of us.

seppultra commented 2 years ago

This feature is implemented since Version 5 ... but only for enterprise.

HoffErik-JohnerInst commented 2 years ago

It's nice to have it for enterprise, but for no-enterprise-users, Jitsi is completely useless without a ringtone in my opinion.

Like you have phone at home without ringtone, nobody knows when or if somebody calls unless you are 24/7 on the line...

Edit: you could implement a basic ringtone for standard licence and a customizable ringtone for enterprise, if you want a version difference at this feature...
