Mattermost import #629

Is it possible to import chat history (and channels, maybe even users) from mattermost? We are considering migration, and that would be really nice to have.

I can see mattermost listed at https://rocket.chat/docs/administrator-guides/import/, but link is dead and I can't find anything more on the internet.

Additionally, when I enter "administration -> Import" tab, I can see Slack and HipChat buttons, but no Mattermost?

Mattermost is compatible with the Slack API.

Sadly we still don't have support for Mattermost but we will be soon working importing tool for Mattermost.

Looks like Mattermost don't have a export feature https://mattermost.atlassian.net/browse/PLT-49 so we will have to connect directly to their database to make a import.

Any update on this at all?

graywolf336 commented 7 years ago

@GraemeCrawford Not currently, however we would love to have a pull request adding this feature. :+1:

As a current work around, you can export users and channels and messages from the database and into csv then import the csv into rocket.chat. https://forum.mattermost.org/t/solved-exporting-a-team-or-conversation/3119/3 and https://rocket.chat/docs/administrator-guides/import/csv

Well thanks for the work around.

Mattermost has implemented an export function. Will there be support to import this into Rocket.Chat?

Any chance a skillful pair of eyes could take a peek at this?

We (and I'm sure many) are considering migrating over to Rocket Chat but unfortunately due to the size (and importance) of our Mattermost exporting it manually to csv and then importing it to RC sounds a bit tricky and most likely not foolproof.

Any new info about migrating mattermost to rocketchat ?

The RocketChat devs don't seem to care too much about push requests that aren't extremely popular...and they don't care too much about those either. We had to abandon RC because there were too many (fixable) things that they just don't have time for. They do, however, have time to charge for notifications now.

I wouldn't waste your time fellas. Stick with MattersMost.

That's unfortunate as I was hoping to replace Mattermost with RC mostly due to its archaic user interface.

I guess I'll have to bury that option then :-(

We definitely welcome PRs for this. Unfortunately when putting time into building importers they didn’t have export yet. Right now we have some other priorities.

Ideally we also want to make import possible via an app. So apps could be made by anyone to import from any platform with out us having to be sole maintainers of it or the bottleneck
