What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Place a call via Sipdroid using any SIP provider
2. Place a call via Fring using the same provider and same account
3. Notice the improved call quality via Fring

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

I expected Sipdroid to be better!

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?

1.1.8, Android 2.0

Which SIP server are you using? What happens with PBXes?

Gizmo5, same thing with PBXes

Please provide any additional information below.

Audio in Sipdroid is super choppy

Do you observe this both with 3G and Wifi? What do Sipdroid's packet statistics
(lost/late) say?

Did you activate the "Improve Audio" option? If this option is activated on a
PBXes
Free Account or on any other SIP server you will get a super choppy voice in
send
direction.

Which direction do you experience audio problems with?

It happens with both 3G and Wifi, Improve Audio is off (all advanced options
are set to
defaults). It's choppy in both directions. I'll do some testing this weekend
and give
you sample lost/late data

I have just installed Sipdroid on Nexus One with Android 2.1. Notice same
difference
against Fring, Fring much louder and clearer. Also notice that I don't get a
ring
tone when I dial another number, but I do with Fring. I amusing SIPgate.
I have tried altering earpiece gain. This, if increased to HIGH meant that all
communication was lost - I couldn't hear other party and other party couldn't
hear
me, but set to low, this gave the loudest voice for both parties. Improve audio
makes
no difference.

I have the same issue with SIPgate: if I connect directly to SIPgate (without
using
PBxes) I have a superb sound quality and really stable connections but I cannot
hear
the ring tone and the first 3sec of a call are missing. If I am using PBxes to
connect to SIPgate, sound quality is mediocre/choppy and calls are interrupted
very
often but I hear a ring tone and I do not loose the first seconds of a call. I
am
using SIP over Wifi only. My phone is a Motorola Milestone with Android 2.0.

I have Fring and Sipdroid installed with the same SIP Vocalocity account, Fring
can
call out no issues. SipDroid can only call other vocalocity numbers anything
else it
terminates calls.

Nexus One

just to note that one of the recent updates has fixed the ring tone issue that I
reported earlier and the sound quality is now much better. However, several of
the
fixes resulted in the called person not being able to hear me. The current
version
works fine.
This application is fantastic. I have been in the US the last week and used
Sipdroid
with Sipgate over private and public wireless networks to keep in touch with
home
daily. Each day a new version seems to come out and improve quality. Well done
guys.
I am on version 1.3.14 beta at the moment.

As of today March 2, 2010 .. having the most recent version of SIPDroid 1.3.14
...
using Gizmo5 account only (no SIM installed, Wifi Only used) ... I can receive
calls
with no issue ... as both parties can hear and speak with good quality HOWEVER,
using
your Gizmo5 account (with a balance I may add) when initiating ANY call whether
domestic or international ... hearing the called-party is CHOPPY to almost
impossible
HOWEVER the called-party can hear you with no noticeable issue or problem. Can
this
issue be corrected by the user or is it just a code adjustment issue? BTW ..
Fring
works good making and receiving calls but I would rather use a SIPDroid type of
product cuz it makes the Nexus One more seamless by cell phone definition while
using
the phone globally. Any Ideas on This ?

I too have similar issues with SipDroid. I have used Guava, and it sounds
perfect
on both incoming & outgoing calls. Yet, with Guava, I cannot seem to make it
accept
keypad entries like when calling the bank or service and they prompt for keypad
entries. SipDroid's keypad during a call works, & it allows me to call
contacts
using widgets & contact logs. So I went with SipDroid.

The issue I am having is: the calls I make sound statically. Like a radio
station
not completely tuned in. You can make out the voices & the words, but are
statically garbled somewhat.

Fring doesn't go thru clearly either. It sounds like a mechanical sifting
sound when
I dialed the bank.

I have SipAgent loaded currently, it does go thru clearly, yet I still cannot
get the
dial pad to work during a call on it either. Only SipDroid keypad seems to
allow an
actual entry, yet most automated systems does not recognize it. :-\

I am using GV with Gizmo5 (with a penny or 2 left on the account), on 2
different
Android phones using 1.5 & 2.0.1!

Is there any fix for this or any ideas on corrections.? Thank you for any
solutions.
:-)
