It re-starts when you turn on wifi again.

Sometimes it will not, I'll keep watching.

And, the indication should not just disappear, it should be turned into red to
indicate that the program is still running, this is more user-friendly.

I had done more tests on my HTC Hero, but the result is not consistent.
In my tests, I tried:
1. turn of Wifi manually
2. move the phone to a place without Wifi coverage
3. let the phone get into sleep mode (Wifi is off during sleep mode)

I got 3 different result:
1. Sipdroid is back to normal when Wifi is back
2. Sipdroid ends even Wifi is back
3. Sipdroid indication stays red, it will try re-register when Wifi is back

I'm not sure if it is specific phone related, but I do have the issue with my
phone.
Maybe someone can help to check on other phones.

I'm running on a g1 and have been having a similar issue; am running
cyanogenmod.

This problem did not present itself until today; so I am inclined my individual
issue might be related to software
or a setting I might have messed up when working on other issues.

The issue presented here may or may not be directly related; but I figure more
information is better than less

ps. is there any sort of logging I can turn on in sipdroid so as to at least
have a starting point for debugging

too bad there is no edit comment function; I just wanted to add that I am using
pbxes, so the asterisk mentioned
in the OP can be discounted as a cause

This also happens for me on the Nexus One. If I am outside of 3G coverage and
I turn
the WiFi off so that there is no network coverage, after some time SIPdroid then
exits. When the WiFi comes back on, SIPdroid does not restart.

It should be noted that if the no-network condition is short (a few minutes),
SIPdroid does not exit. It appears that it is only when the network is down
for a
longer period of many minutes that SIPdroid exits.

I see this on the Moto Droid too. PBXes, CallCentric, Sipdroid 1.2.4.

I change WiFi mode to "never sleep". I find it interesting that installing
Sipdroid
changes WiFi mode back to default. In default mode, when the screen goes to
sleep,
Sipdroid becomes unregistered. The only way I can get it to register again is to
actually open the Sipdroid GUI. It will not automatically register again.

Instead of just the LED indicator for failed registration, an optional ring or
vibrate would be great for when the phone is in the pocket. :)
