Sipdroid will not complete calls using Gizmo5 #225

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Have a Gizmo5 account with calling credit for outbound calls.
2. Make an outbound call to a regular phone number using Gizmo5

What is the expected output?
Call is connected.

What do you see instead?
The outgoing call is not connected.
Gizmo5 reports that you need to purchase calling credit. This is not purely
a Gizmo5 problem because it only happens with Sipdroid. For example, see
this conversation where several different people report the same problem:
http://forum.gizmo5.com/viewtopic.php?p=49431#49431

BTW, Sipdroid and Gizmo5 do work together for incoming calls.

What version of the product are you using?
Sipdroid 1.2.1 beta

On what operating system?
Android 2.0 on Droid

Which SIP server are you using?
Gizmo5

What happens with PBXes?
I don't use it.

Which type of network are you using?
3g and WiFi

Sipdroid is a great product. Thanks!

> You probably experienced an incompatibility with the GSM compression codec
used by
Sipdroid 1.2 on EDGE networks. Sipdroid 1.2.1 should again transmit
uncompressed when
on WiFi and call option "Voice Compression" set to "Only over EDGE".
---------------------

My response:
I went into Sipdroid settings and turned off "use Edge". And I set option "Voice
Compression" to "Only over EDGE". I connected to a WiFi network. That should
mean
Sipdroid would not be using compression.

Then I attempted to dial directly from Sipdroid. The results were the same as I
stated above:
The outgoing call is not connected.
Gizmo5 reports that you need to purchase calling credit.
However, if I repeat the same procedure with a phone not using Sipdroid (such
as one
connected to my Linksys PAP2), I can complete the call (because I do have Gizmo
calling credit).
That leads one to question whether there is a problem in my settings for Gizmo.
However, the fact that I receive calls correctly and that Gizmo identifies my
account
would indicate that my account credentials are correct.

Anyway, from my results, this is not the same as issue 221.

Having caller ID set in the Sipdroid preferences may also cause the Gizmo5
"need to
purchase credit" message. I posted a reply to the forum thread originally
mentioned in
this issue. Gizmo5 ticket# 81465. If you have caller ID set, try to unset it
and see
if it helps.

Thanks for the super quick response. Caller ID was the solution. Awesome!

I had been trying every related number I could think of in the Caller ID
setting (my
mobile number, my Gizmo number, my GV number), but I didn't think to leave it
empty.
However, as soon as I did "unset" it, the problem was solved. Thanks.

I suggest to complain explicitly to gizmo5:) Feel free to reference my ticket#
81465.
If they hear from more people experiencing this problem, they might be more
likely to
fix it soon.

my gizmo5 and google voice setting is very bad on 3g/edge. I am getting the
incoming
but then after a minute it brakes caller voice or mostly disconnects...
although it
works great on wifi...any setting suggestions?
