DTMF tones not working to verify number for google voice #84

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Got GV number but unable to use DTMF dial pad to verify phone, there are no
key tones when I press the numbers.

Original issue reported on code.google.com by omi...@gmail.com on 18 Jul 2009 at 9:16

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
The tone is in the receiving sound. You cannot hear it, but that's a feature
not a bug. I can register with Google
Voice just fine.

using latest version available as of 7/28, sending a DTMF tone to an asterisk
server,
gets no response. sending from a softphone works just fine.

I just tested this on sipdroid 1.0.7 beta, and DTMF sending worked flawlessly
with my
Gizmo / Google Voice accounts in two different tests:

1. receiving a Google Voice call. I had to "press 1 to take the call", and this
worked just fine.

2. accessing my UCLA voicemail. This requires entering many touch tones to log
in
and navigate the voice mail system and play / delete messages. It worked
flawlessly.

So at least for me, unable to replicate this bug report.

The DTMF tones seem broken for all calls (or maybe just WLAN as another reporter
observed--I can't test on 3G either).

The priority of this bug should be set to high, it renders Sipdroid useless as a
replacement phone.

After setting up a PBXes account, I now have this problem. I can hear the DTMF
tones, but they're not registering on the receiving end. The problem persists
for
both WiFi and 3G calls. I'm Using SipDroid 1.1.1 on Android 1.5.

Happening here too. I'm on 1.1.1, android 1.5. I hear the dialtones, but they
don't
register.

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
I should also note that when holding my phone up to a DTMF tone generator, the
tones
are picked up at the receiving end. I take this to mean the problem is not in
my SIP
setup but with SipDroid itself. Might an extra setting allowing for 'long'
tones
work? Can the transmitted DTMF volume be increased?

@omni909: Try the above (there are online applets you can run) if you still
need to
setup your GV account.

Same story. DTMF tone generator works. Sipdroid, no. Alas, Sipdroid otherwise
is a
absolutely fantastic app since I don't have cell service as the house.

I would like DTMF tones to work too, please. This isn't just for Google Voice.
In this
day and age, sometimes you NEED to be able to send these tones.

i.e., I want to dial someone's extension. Very frustrating!

Original comment by benf...@gmail.com on 11 Nov 2009 at 4:17

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
DTMF still not working. Tone generator worked for Google Voice verification
after
turning it up and making the tones longer, with a nice big pause between the
tones.
Why is this still at a "Medium" priority?

I have been playing around with this app to learn about the Android OS/API and
also
been fixing the bugs that have really been bothering me. I use Sipdroid all
the time
while I'm over here in the Middle East. I may not have Verizon access but I
can
still use my phone wherever there's Wi-Fi :)

Anyways, to the point of this discussion, one of the bugs I fixed was the DTMF
tone
issue. The problem was actually in one of the SIP packages that is being used
(not
written by the author of Sipdroid). I am learning how to package my "modified"
version of Sipdroid - anyone that is interested in this fix (along with a
number of
other fixes) is welcome to email me at matthew.monacelli@gmail.com

Great

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
Using 1.5 beta, I cannot make the tones heard correctly over my voice-mail
system or a voice-conferencing system I use. Most key presses result in a
double tone.

Please try to reproduce the bug by dialing out to the voice conferencing
system, it will repeat the digits entered for confirmation before sending you
to the conference call, so, you have the opportunity to confirm that sipdroid
is indeed sending dual tones instead of just the tones pressed. The number is
1-712-451-6000.

I just figured out a work around to my Problem.

Steps
1) Use google voice to verify/call your SIP phone #
2) Answer the SIP phone using Sipdroid and select speakerphone.
3) Pickup another phone (house phone) and put it on speaker phone and place the
speaker close to your SIP phone (Sipdroid) microphone.
4) Press and hold each digit on your "House Phone" for a couple seconds.
5 Your SIP phone should now be verified using google voice.

The above steps worked for me.

Y adapters for the 1/4" mic in and head phone out? Patch the headphone out back
into the mic in? Viola the DTMF tones where you want them going outbound to the
voicemail server to hear pound sign or whatever or password or extension number
or.. or...
Wouldn't this cause mondo feedback meltdown? Do I have to go all the way to
Radio Shack and buy the little adapters to try this stupid McGiver? This has
all happened before. The outbound voice channel is muted until the caller
answers and even then it manages to take it's sweet time till it pops in 10
seconds into the call while the callee is yelling hello! hello then they hang
up. The Pac bell land phones used to do this years ago. Then skype came down
with a nice long case of this a few years ago as if it's the same people
Gremlins doing this for each and every new type of phone service. The people
hang up on you cause they can't hear you. I'll have to try and just straight
call a voicemail or something to see if this is the case or if just the DTMF
tones are shut off.

The following work around steps that I figured out worked for me.

1) Download Sipdroid version 1.3.7 from the link mentioned above.
2) Download the Gizmo client from http://gizmo5.com/pc/download
3) Configure and login to Gizmo both on Sipdroid and Gizmo client.
4) When GV calls, answer the call on Sipdroid and Gizmo client. Right after
that, press 1 on the Gizmo client's dialpad to take the call when it prompts
you to do so.
5) Hold your phone close to the PC's microphone and press the code using
Sipdroid dialpad (turn on speakerphone if needed).
6) Your phone number on Google Voice should now be verified.

I used SIP Communicator to verify the IPKall number with GV. All the back-end
stuff, like IPKall, PBXes, and GV worked fine.

Workarounds for GV registration are fine, but I would like to use GV call
screening, and that requires the use of DTMF. Sipdroid 2.1 still will not let
me send "1" to accept incoming GV calls.

Same problem. I used my house phone on speaker to verify my SIP number for

I can't answer Google Voice either. I tried long pressing 1 and dialling 11111.

There are 3 different protocol settings for DTMF in PBXes.org.
This issue might be nothing to do with SIPDroid.
I haven't figured out my situation yet so I shouldn't have just assumed it was
SIPDroid.

I just verified that this is a Sipdroid issue using two separate PBXes.org
accounts and two separate GV accounts. I am used Sipdroid 2.2beta on my HTC
Incredible (ADR3600) and X-Lite 4 on my laptop. VoIP connection is via
PBXes.org & IPKall & Google Voice.

All calls were made from GV #A to a separate GV #B. I used all of the DTMFMode
settings in PBXes.org to attempt to dial '1' and answer the incoming call.

GV #A connects to Sipdroid THEN calls GV #B answered by X-Lite 4:
DTMFmode: auto ..... X-Lite could not successful dial '1' to answer
DTMFmode: inband ... X-Lite could not successful dial '1' to answer
DTMFmode: info ..... X-Lite SUCCESSFULLY dialed '1' to answer call
DTMFmode: rfc2833 .. X-Lite could not successful dial '1' to answer

GV #B connects to X-Lite 4 THEN calls GV #A answered by Sipdroid 2.2beta:
DTMFmode: auto ..... Sipdroid could not successful dial '1' to answer
DTMFmode: inband ... Sipdroid could not successful dial '1' to answer
DTMFmode: info ..... Sipdroid could not successful dial '1' to answer
DTMFmode: rfc2833 .. Sipdroid could not successful dial '1' to answer
*NOTE: I also tried each DTMFmode with "audio bypass" set to "yes" and had the
same result.

I was having this same issue but with mixed results depending on the conference
number or voice mail I was calling. The option that finally worked for me
was... Sipdroid > Settings > PBXes Features > Simultaneous Outbound (enable).

I'm not sure exactly what this settings does, but DTMF tones are now working
for me.

I'm glad to know this is a known issue. I just got hit with that which is weird
because Google Voice actually activated fine, but another incoming call that
required me to dial a number to accept failed, so I called from a house phone
so I could hear it and it was silent.

I have read this thread and what I have done so far is turn on audible key
tones on the phone, set the PBXes.org sipdroid extension to DTMF=INFO, and
turned on Simultaneous Outbound. From the house phone I can now hear a faint
DTMF. I don't know if it will be loud enough to do the job yet; I'll post
result when I find out.
