Website loading extremely slow #26

Closed Dragodraki closed 1 year ago

Dragodraki commented 3 years ago

Describe the bug The loading still takes too long using the additional famous add-ons "AdGuard ad blocker" and "I don't care about cookies" on almost all sites (mostly stores). Often build in FF-banner warns that it slows down the website. Cooperation with such additional addons needs to be accelerated, so that the loading of the websites is faster.

Thank you for the feedback. I'm acknowledged of this issue and briefly described it here: https://romanisthere.github.io/posts/popupoff-troubleshooting/#firefox

I'm going to fix it with the next major update.

Dragodraki commented 3 years ago

Thank you so far. So I will look forward to a new version. If you can pull this off for Firefox, it should be a really extremely successful addon.

version 2.0.3: Maybe you can perform another update for older Firefox since the last update is a half a year ago and of all addons are offered yours has the the most potential. I know, the API for searching for banners and headers can last, but some websites on my computer FF-68.3.0esr-64-Bit on Windows-7-64-Bit (e.g. Amazon, eBay) won't finish loading and FF offers to turn off the Addon (the yellow note bar at the top). I would appreciate a new update very much.

There's mention of a bug in Firefox. Is there an open report on Bugzilla, or elsewhere, that you might be able to link to?

Dragodraki commented 2 years ago

You'll notice this behaviour on nearly every great shop site like Amazon and eBay (both of them extremely) and Co. but also on many other websites.Because it seems to be a genereal problem, there isn't any help if I post a concrete URL - the method of filtering is often far to long (never ready loading sites or banner info in Firefox will proof that).

Dragodraki commented 2 years ago

No (to your question), there isn't any open report on Bugzilla. Since I don't know how to contact Firefox support properly and I'm didn't sure whether the fault is grounded to Mozilla in the first place. Because without addon such delays never happen.

I'm not sure, but it's probably this one: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1395767

It shouldn't. PopUpOFF uses MutationObserver API, which is not used widely - there is not much reasons to use it except in extensions like mine. I'm almost sure that I can fix it from my side, but unluckily, I didn't have time to do so yet :(

I'm not much of a programmer, especially not for addons. So I can't form an opinion out of the given facts. But if you have time, a fix would be very great. In times of online-advertisements becoming extremely aggressive like never before, there has to be a equal good defense. And only your addon "PopUpOFF" and one other addon ("Banner banner") are possibly able to do that so far.

I've just released a new version - 2.1.0. It should fix freezes in firefox. I'll watch the situation, but for now I'll close this issue, feel free to reopen it if needed.
