Not able to read HANDCENT or text messages on ICS

Device (phone) brand:motorola
Device (phone) model:droid razr maxx
Android OS version:4.04
App version: A2.1 or main - 2.8.6
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. activate read text messages under preferences
2. connect to blue tooth device (jawbone era)
3. activate read text messages under jawbone era

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
Expected text messages to be read over bluetooth and it did not work. Tried 
several times.  Stopped and restarted service after making changes to both 
preferences and under jawbone era and no text messages are heard.

Please provide any additional information below.
I know the phone can read text messages because of another text to speech 
application I have installed.  Not very happy with the application and was 
trying this one.

I was able to get it to work.  I think the problem is that I was using HD 
widgets to control bluetooth as well as other items on the razr maxx.  And as 
long as i use the standard phone controls for bluetooth it works.
