updating after rooting #115

Im on webos 3.9.0-62709 (dreadloks2-dudhwa) My tv is rooted and with the homebrew channel installed How safe is to update to system software 06.10.30 If I update my tv will I lose my root or my installed apps?

I wouldn't recommend updating.

Since you didn't say what model your TV is, I'll assume it has an M16P SoC. In that case, the last firmware version vulnerable to RootMyTV was 06.00.30. If you update beyond that, you may not lose root, but autostart will no longer work. And if you do lose root, your only option to regain it would involve hardware, as the only other current exploit (crashd) only works on webOS 4+.

Since you're likely on firmware version 06.00.25 right now, you could theoretically update to 06.00.30. However, it looks like the only thing that changed between those versions were CA certificates.

Sorry, I forgot to mention my model Its 43UJ6300 im on webos 3.9.0-62804 software version 06.00.04. Ive read that even if I try to update the software version my webos version may not upgrade to 4, I already rooted my tv, its rooted and with the homebrew channel, but I want to try some homebrew that is not present to use on webos 3.9. So, updating will not upgrade my webos version from 3.9 to 4? Thank you

I'm confused. In your first post you said you had webOS version 3.9.0-62709, but now you're saying it's 3.9.0-62804.

Anyway, assuming that your otaid is HE_DTV_W17M_AFADATAA (still M16P SoC, but "lite"), you could safely update to 06.05.10. This is a somewhat more substantial update, with a modest number of packages being changed (including CA certificates).

Regardless, no update will get you to webOS 4. Upgrading to a new webOS major version has never been possible.
