and is due to the MultiViews feature of Apache.
I tried the SO recommended approach (putting Options -MultiViews into the .htaccess file) but it is not working, (as with a number of emulated Apache features on Hawkhost).
Calls to a script that are appended with a segment, such as http://deliberation.ruleml.org/1.01/relaxng/schema_rnc.php/myng-bf-d6-a7-l1-p1-i0-t220-q0-e2-s0 ignore everything after .php .
