Connectivity changes #30

This branch is still incomplete, there are outstanding performance issues.

Having said that, the validation tests all seem to be working and the changes are correctly implemented. Still trying to figure out where these changes have an impact and base NFsim performance.

Fixed performance issues, added one new test. Will add another test once merge is complete.

All checks are passing, the final validation model will be added after merge.
