this issue was reported on 2016-05-13. It's been 8 years without a solution https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libatasmart/+bug/1581594

Rupan is not the original author of the software. This is a mirror. I sent a patch to fix the issue which I hoped rupan would accept but the project is looking for maintainers I guess. Would you like to contribute? Thanks!
