General cleanup #28

These are just some items I planned to do when switching context back into this code. API doc is now available at hosted github page so no reason to keep the generated version in the repo, so no reason to call out how to generate it in the main readme. Only code change is to predefine a property that already existed and set it to null which is consistent.
