When you log out of and re-enter the world it reapplies the stat bonuses you get from the altar. It goes back to normal if you completely close out the game and launch it again. This makes it so if you have, say, 10 wisdom, log out, and re-enter the world you would then have 20 wisdom, then 30, 40, etc.
