I am running into some issues on a client site where wp-json/ REST API endpoints return 403 errors.

do you know how this is related to the SAML extension?

We are not executing SAML under the scenarios described at the may_disable_saml method: https://github.com/onelogin/wordpress-saml/blob/master/onelogin-saml-sso/php/functions.php#L30
