They suggested some complicated thing where they have different citation styles per order/class. I said they should make it simple. Tilla is supposed to reply saying what we go with.

All SIS exports:

Dragonflies– excluding the National assessments 47 that will use Dragonfly book. Amphibians Mammals Freshwater Fish

General format: note sure whether all assessments will be published online but a large number should be, the more recent assessment won’t be on the IUCN website, hence no web link. I have checked in the export whether there is a field with the citation, but I assume it is generate on the website and not captured in the database

Author. Year. Species. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species (Year of assessment). Link to the species page. Downloaded on date to be generated.

Example: Impson, D. & Swartz, E. 2007. Barbus serra. The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species 2007:e.T2569A9456404. http://dx.doi.org/10.2305/IUCN.UK.2007.RLTS.T2569A9456404.en. Downloaded on 09 March 2017. Website general reference for assessments first published on the website:

Author. Year. Species. Website name. South African Biodiversity Institute, Pretoria. Link to specific species page. Downloaded on date.

Linefish is the only candidate – but I think we will need input from Prideel and co, before the final decision is made. So I think we use the Seakeys reference in the meantime.

Book references without reference to a specific species as alternative if specific species reference is not used – to just have it as a general citation at the bottom of each applicable taxonomic group.
