we have needed a while to craft a proper reply, sorry. However, here is the current state of thinking about this topic. We'll update as we learn and probably move this to a more central place (but link from here). There is no estimation yet when "beta" phase will be over, but once you read the below, you will understand that "beta" or "not beta" doesn't make that much of a difference: on the one hand there are only few breaking changes (also: with limited impact) planned right now and on the other hand we'll not guarantee eternal compatibility in non-beta state either.
