Sketchup General Issues #17

Dear Gabby,

Thank you for that introduction earlier! I have a couple of general questions about Sketchup. I've definitely installed the 2017 version but it says that the licence will expire in 30 days, is that normal? My second question is how do I save the work that I've done? I can't just use the 'save as' for the model that I created following the introductory video. Do you know how to save the work that's been done?

Warmest wishes, Catherine

Dear Catherine,

Use 'Save as' to save your work for the first time. Then, you just need to press Ctrl+S or click on 'Save' to save further changes.

Regarding the 30-day trial, you did fine. It only means that you'll be enjoying SketchUp PRO for 30 days and SketchUp MAKE (free version) after that. More info here: https://support.sketchup.com/s/article/Can-I-still-download-SketchUp-Make-and-use-it-on-the-desktop#:~:text=We%20still%20have%20SketchUp%20Make,have%20the%20free%20Make%20version.

Can't wait to see your model!

Best,

Coré.

Dear Coré,

Thank you for this advice. The problem is that I can't use 'save as'. The file will not save to My Documents or my C. Drive. I end up with an error that says 'File not Found. Check the file name and try again.'

Warmest wishes, Catherine

Have you tried starting a new document (Ctrl+N) and saving the new one?

Let me know if that works. If it doesn't, the problem might be on Windows: 16522018501591121955374268459935

Dear Coré,

Unfortunately, that does not work. But I have managed to find a long and complicated solution that will work on a temporary basis. I've got a saved Sketchup for the exercise which will do for now. I'll see if I can work something out in the long run.

Thank you for your help!

Warmest wishes, Catherine

I wonder if the refusal to save files is an issue with having activated the demo version of Sketchup Pro in some way? You have to be quite careful on the startup screen to ignore all the "free offer", "license" and other options, and just select Template --> Simple Template - Meters --> Start using SketchUp. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling the software, and make sure it doesn't coerce you into upgrading to pro?
