Hi Group 2, Just to cross-post from the technical issues discussion, RAWgraphs seems to be having trouble parsing the data (although this worked for me just copying and pasting when I tried it previously, it is fairly typical to encounter these kinds of unexpected glitches!). One workaround that I found worked though is I saved the data as a csv file, then opened the csv on my computer (using Excel or Numbers, etc.) and then copy and pasted all of the data from the spreadsheet to RAWGraphs, which then seemed to be able to parse the data correctly. A bit longwinded but hope that works for you all! Naomi
The rawgraphs apps required really knowing your dataset already.
I could not find how to get a legend to come along with the images I produced, and without that these seemed mostly useless to anyone except the person who designed them.
The Cluster Dendogram seemed like a great way to "see" your data, however, which is very useful for exploratory analyses.
I will use this tool frequently:
That looks great!
Here is mine - I agree that it tricky to create meaningful graphs without really knowing the dataset. I also could not figure out how to label them.
(It is elevation, vs longitude and latitude)
Has anyone had any luck with this? I can't get past the load data page - I put the data in and then there is no way to move beyond this!
No luck at all! Still having issues with uploading the csv document

That is terrific!
Contour Plot was another one I've been playing with--this is just plotted by lat/long with standard deviation at 15 to show breaks in the colored "topography". It is maybe a way of seeing the "geography" of the Roman world differently: as clusters of ampitheatres.
What I'm still trying to do, but can't figure out is how to use some of the other information in any meaningful way, whether dimensions of the ampitheatre or capacities.

Interesting! Ampitheatres love the seaside! Though that said, I'm actually surprised by how many are above 300m elevation (I'm assuming elevation is in metres and not feet?).

Same here! I've tried everything.

Hi both, I posted this fix earlier which should help!

That worked for me but now it wants me to set the X,Y dimensions by dragging numbers and I can't tell from where.
I'd recommend watching the tutorial listed on the wiki to familiarise yourself with the basics of RAWGraphs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yfac2CZJrP0. It should also help with the earlier query about adding labels.

That's my problem, actually. I watched the tutorial and my page looks nothing like it in the section about the X,Y dimensions. There are no options to drag. I'm sure that it's related to entering the data wrong, so I'll keep working on that.
ah, not sure why that would be happening but just in case useful, I've added a new version of the dataset which RAWGraphs should be able to parse more effectively: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/SASDigitalHumanitiesTraining/Visualisation/master/datasets/roman%20amphitheaters%202.csv

That works! Thank you!
Hi everyone! The visualisation is an Alluvial Diagram showing correlations between the building types, the chronogroups and the modern countries:
This second visualisation is a bar chart presenting the elevation of each amphitheatre: the ids are on the X Axis but they are illegible in the image. The colors indicate the building type.
This charts capacity of amphitheatres, 2 groups (2nd century or not), and the radius depicts the exterior height. I was playing with groups, but I guess the division into 2nd century or not is not particularly useful here!
At the very last minute,
Has anyone had any luck with this? I can't get past the load data page - I put the data in and then there is no way to move beyond this!
