We originally had Project Root as a subdirectory of Project Root because we anticipated having multiple projects in a single repository (namely Android and iOS) but that is not the case. On the other hand, moving the project root up to repository root makes it work much more nicely with the Android Studio IDE's automatic VCS management.
This PR is downstream of #44 so if it is merged then #44 can be deleted as its changes will also have been merged.
