Selecting a set of parameters #2284

Open ricardopizarro opened 1 month ago

I am having trouble selecting an appropriate set of parameters that initialize ShapeWorks. There is a default setting and the option to change them but I am wondering if you could provide some insight into how to go about selecting these parameters.

This study used 256 correspondence points for the LAA https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4559307/

Then what appears to be the same group used 64 correspondence points for the LAA in this study https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s10554-021-02262-8

Why the discrepancy? We are trying to understand so we can implement in our own study.

The number of particles depends on how detailed of a model you are interested in constructing and is very much data dependent.

A general rule of thumb is to use the fewest number of particles that accurately describes your data. You can compare the reconstructed and original surfaces and look at the surface to surface distance. For example here:

Regarding the two studies you referenced, the LAA from MRI is a fairly small and blob-like structure and there is likely no extra information gained by increasing behind a certain particle count.
