Failed to boot system with "User process fault: interruption code 0001 ilc:3 in ld-2.28.so" #488

Hello,

When I was trying to install an RHEL8.5 for System Z on the latest SDL Hyperion, it failed to boot with the following logs:

Is it an issue of hercules? Or a bug for libc? Thanks.

The abends result from the use of the VLEG (VECTOR LOAD ELEMENT) instruction which is provided by the Vector Facility for z/Architecture, a facility that Hercules does not support or provide.

My view is that this is a bug in libc, it should not use vector instructions on a system that does not support them, a problem that has been seen (and corrected) with another package.
