@luciansmith Here my proposed changes. All minor things. I don't have access to a latex system to compile the pdf at the moment so update of the PDF is missing from this pull request (also could not check if I broke something ;).

Hmm, do we want to do anything about author order here? Making it alphabetical is usually a reasonable way to say 'everyone basically contributed equally'.

matthiaskoenig commented 3 years ago

For me it would be great if I could be at first position for this spec. Most of the authors on here have already professorships and do not require a first or last authorship to get tenure/position. For me this would really help because I invested a lot of time and resources in SED-ML over the last years (also the L1V3 release) but was only listed somewhere in the middle. Not sure what others think? We can clearly state everybody contributed equally on the title page, but in the end the order matters :/

matthiaskoenig commented 3 years ago

Also fine with random order then there is at least a non-zero chance for first or last authorship. Otherwise we could do something like here: https://twitter.com/KatsuFunai/status/1420369521823555586

Now I seem to recall some other discussion in the past about authorship--I'm fine leaving the list as-is.

That said, I will happily play videogames against any of you if you want my spot ;-)

agarny commented 3 years ago

My contribution has been somewhat minimal compared with that of others, so happy to go with whatever you guys decide when it comes to authorship.

This being said, I feel like both @matthiaskoenig and @luciansmith have, overall, been the main driving forces behind L1V4. So, personally, I would be more than happy for @luciansmith to be first author and @matthiaskoenig to be last (much better, in my view, to be last if you are thinking about promotion @matthiaskoenig?). As for the rest of us, I guess an alphabetical order would make sense, although I might put @jonrkarr second to acknowledge his comprehensive contribution since he has been on board?

Anyway, just my 2 cents.

The author list also seems random to me.

@agarny suggestions seems reasonable. I would add two suggestions

matthiaskoenig commented 3 years ago

I would be very happy with Lucian being first and me being last author. Best Matthias

@agarny https://github.com/agarny suggestions seems reasonable. I would add two suggestions

  • Lucian and Matthias have "*" to indicate equal contribution
  • Since we're each doing this work ourselves, rather than supervising others, I would suggest Lucian and Matthias be the first two authors.

Merging all of the above, I went ahead and put myself as first author, Matthias as last, and everyone else alphabetical. That way we don't have to add a note, and things seem reasonable. Thanks, everyone!
