BETTER -- make report URL available to anyone who it is sent to. #3321

Open RDmitchell opened 2 years ago

RDmitchell commented 2 years ago

Is your feature request related to a problem? Please describe.

Right now when SEED generates a BETTER report for viewing, the HTML is associated with the SEED Server and (unless I am missing something) it isn't possible to give that URL to someone to view outside of the organization that generated it.

Describe the solution you'd like

SEED should generate a BETTER report URL that could be emailed (via Salesforce in the City of Berkeley's case) to a building owner so that they could see it.

Generating a PDF is also an option, but the URL is the first choice. The idea situation would be that SEED could provide a "public" URL + a PDF if the user requested them

Describe alternatives you've considered

Additional context

@areagan-cob -- Ammon Reagan from the City of Berkeley has requested this feature

RDmitchell commented 2 years ago

It would be nice to have this feature in SEED by the fall when the city will be communicating results to their building owners.

RDmitchell commented 2 years ago

From @areagan-cob

Ideally there would be a field in SEED with the "public" URL so that the city could pass that URL field to Salesforce to be included in their automated emails to building owners.

nllong commented 2 years ago

Agreed that a public URL would be nice, but that really isn't an option at the moment. You can download the HTML file from the 'Full Analysis' details of any run. See the download icon next to "Building Report" below. If it needs to be an HTML, then the user could print the downloaded HTML as PDF.

@nllong -- is this something we could develop in the next few months?

Alternatively, if that isn't possible, could we have SEED generate the PDF as on of the download options?

nllong commented 2 years ago

Having SEED convert the HTML to PDF and download would be easier (and safer).

RDmitchell commented 2 years ago

Seems like that might be a good first step

RDmitchell commented 2 years ago

Then the question is whether that PDF file (or a reference to it) could be stored in a SEED field, which is what Berkeley needs so that it works with their automated Salesforce system
