An issue may be access to power for the gate system. There is lighting power nearby, but dubious access to mains. Some suggestions:

Solar power and battery - might work? Wemos can report voltages so at least can keep an eye on it.
Feed from space (PoE?)

I'm wondering if there is wifi signal out there too? maybe we will need a wired ethernet connection anyways.
