Hi Dear George It would be wondering If you could add an example showing newcomers how to use the SHYFEM model? I have just started learning this package and unfortunately get confused to apply that for modeling water bodies. Best wishes and happy new year Morteza

Hi Morteza,

if you look in the distribution, you will be able to find a directory examples. This will teach you step by step how to apply the shyfem model.

Dear Georg

hope all is well

I have just installed Shyfem_6_2_75_stable.tar.gz version of SHYFEM (downloaded from https://sites.google.com/site/shyfem/file-cabinet) on my laptop (ubuntu 21.04). Unfortunately, after "make cleanall" and "make fem" the model doesn't work properly (Please find the error message in the attachment). I was wondering if I had your idea about that. Also, this error occurred when I did the same process for the version downloaded from "https://github.com/SHYFEM-model/shyfem" (shyfem-develop.zip). The installation process in both models is according to the user manual ( shyfem_manual_v6-1-74.pdf).

Hi Morteza,

the version you have installed is a very old version. Please go to Github, look for shyfem, and then download the latest version.

This should work.

Dear Prof. Georg Hi I finally did the installation process and now I am trying to run the example "mar_menor" according to the instruction. unfortunately, again I have a problem with execution. The error message is about "GRID/MM_coarse.bas" existence. I am wondering If again you can help me to cope with this problem. yours sincerely Morteza

Hi Morteza,

there was an error in one file. You probably have solved it. I am sorry, this was not supposed to happen.

Now the problem with the bas-file. You should always send me the exact error message, otherwise I have problems understanding what happens.

In any case, you probably did not run "make init". After this command you should find the bas-files in the directory GRID and then you can run the simulations.
