The Standard states that identical Index Table Segments are allowed, but does not specify if these identical copies of Index Table Segments are allowed (or required) to have the same InstanceUID as their predecessor.
Repetitions of Header Metadata are explicitly exempt from the required uniqueness of InstanceUID values, Index Table Segments are not.
“Simple repetition of the Header Metadata shall not require the creation of new Instance UID values.” - SMPTE 377-1:2011, 9.3.3, #1
“Identical Index Table Segments may be repeated in Partitions where required by the application.” - SMPTE 377-1:2011, 11.2.3 Index Table Segment, Condition 3
Note: Current implementations both do and do not use the same InstanceUID for “repeated” Index Table Segments.
