Content allowed in table cells #149

Open bgschunck opened 1 year ago

What content can be present in a table cell? Plain text, images, and equations but not text that contains sections and headings. Images, but not figures. Nested tables are not allowed. Cells with plain text could include lists and inline math.

I am not super excited with the idea of allowing lists, since it makes reading the table much harder. Instead cells can be split.

Do we have an example of a table whose cell contain lists?

Below is a proposed list of allowed elements:

I don't like lists in cells either. It was mentioned during the meeting last Friday. As I recall, Ellen Ryan had a use case in one or her documents, probably VC-6 Part 1.

IMO, we should leave lists out of cells. If any use cases arise, we can revisit the issue later.

Seems fine to me on a quick first look. The list includes code, math, images, and simple markup for text. Let's go with it. We can add/remove elements later as use cases emerge but it looks fine so far.

If done clean, I don't see any issue with lists in cells, especially when documenting workflows. See https://doc.smpte-doc.org/html-pub/feature/annex-pubstate-workflow/#sec-sample-workflow for an example of this I'm using in the html-pub guide. I could redo with rowspan, but that is actually worse / harder to read with all the border, and in this case I really need the list.
