Generic Sound Essence Descriptor #16

ST377:2004 Sound Essence Compression item is called “Sound Essence Coding” in ST377-1:2019. We may want to indicate this in informative section 6 – even if ST382M-2007 section 7.2.1 (titled Sound Essence Compression) does already speaks about Sound Essence Coding in the body of this section 7.2.1…

ST 377:2004 and ST 377-1:2019 are in fact both incorrect since the registers specify "Audio Coding Scheme ID" and "SoundCompression" as the name and symbol for the item.

I suggest simply noting that the UL is the normative reference, and that the registers should be consulted for the name and symbol of the item.

I agree. It feels that all these differences should be explained in our document, with indication of where to find source of truth. Thank you.

Thank you for this proposed revision. I would take the opportunity to include Gamma item (as identified in https://github.com/SMPTE/st429-20/issues/15) in example as well - maybe something like:

For example: . Sound Essence Compression in SMPTE ST 377:2004 is named Sound Essence Coding in SMPTE ST 377-1:2019 . Gamma in SMPTE ST 377:2004 is named Transfer Characteristic in SMPTE ST 377-1:2019

Should we add SMPTE ST 2123 if not in normative references section, at least in bibliography? (minor comment: "ST377-1:2019" should be changed to "SMPTE ST 377-1:2019" in the first example) Thank you
