6 years ago [tcap479@5/12/2011] You can find the background settings in Graph Options, which is available from a button at the top of the graph pane. I moved it there when I changed the way NodeXL's options work in general -- namely, that each workbook now gets its own set of options. I removed Schemes, at least temporarily, because they are largely redundant with Autofill Columns, which is available at NodeXL, Visual Properties in the Ribbon; and with Group by Vertex Attributes, available at NodeXL, Analysis, Groups. Have you tried one of those other features? Let me know if you have any questions about them.

Each NodeXL workbook now has its own set of options. The options are stored right in the workbook, so if you send a workbook to someone else, she'll be using the same set of options that you did. ("Options" are the selections you make in NodeXL's dialog boxes, in the NodeXL tab in the Excel Ribbon, and in the toolbar at the top of the graph pane.)

If you like the options you've selected in a workbook and you want those options to be used for all new NodeXL workbooks, use NodeXL, Options, Use Current for New in the Ribbon.

The old "Options" button at the top of the graph pane is now called "Graph Options."

There is no longer a Background button in NodeXL, Visual Attributes. The graph's background color and image are now both set via Graph Options.
I was using NodeXL_1.0.1.164 version which shows both Schemes and background buttons. When I installed the new version (..167), these two buttons don't show up. Using Excel 97 on Windows Vista Ultimate. Attaching screen shots
