How much data do the social workers collect out in the field? Do they bring their devices? #8

When social workers are interviewing, and getting updates from the different people they work with do they bring their phones?

How much "data" do they need to collect out in the field?

strabu commented 4 years ago

Our recommended devices are Tablets. An experienced social worker needs about 1,5 hrs to finish a core assessment with a family with 2 children. On the phone this would be tedious.

We see the social workers mobile phone as an additional tool for regular visits, so (s)he would update single indicators eg. update school marks during conversations.

Usually a social worker works with his/her families alone.

Probably they would do around 5 core-assessments a day (given one takes 1,5 hrs). We don't collect any binary/image-data so the amount of data should not be an issue. (We are currently using Indexed DB and haven't had issues with disk-quotas yet.)

@strabu Do most social workers have tablets now? If not, how do the workers without tablets or even phones record the data they acquire?

strabu commented 4 years ago

We just started telling the first social workers that it's actually possible to use the new App on tablets and phones. The device 99% are using today is their laptop. We got some Tablets funded for colleagues in Africa, hopfully we'll be able to fund some more for other parts of the world.

@strabu do they ever simply take notes on paper in the field and then copy that information into computers later on?

strabu commented 4 years ago

Probably as of today all of them work mainly on paper and only do the necessary on the PC in the office every now and then. We want to encourage them to change their habits from now on with an app that makes their lives easier.
