What about more GBA-like UI? #47

gabrielbutoeru commented 8 years ago

Hi! I really like your work and I'm happy to see that now I can play with my W10m device too :D . We will never get AR and 3D but that's not a problem. I prefer the old GBA Pokemon games and I think sprites and other kind of UI-related material would be easier to find for you and it will give a more nostalgic but original look. If you like my idea I think you can find some material here: Sprites -> here Background -> on DeviantArt there's a lot of cool stuff like this

LaurensvanVliet commented 8 years ago

PLZ NEVER DO THIS

brunomenezes66 commented 8 years ago

I consider this very original and cool. The app would be the same as the official, but also different.

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

I don't like this idea either. As long as Nintendo/Niantic/Pokemon don't make problems because of copyright, let's make the app a clone of the original.

gabrielbutoeru commented 8 years ago

We will never get a 3D graphic, is just too much work to do for a single person. A 1:1 clone is just crazy.

LaurensvanVliet commented 8 years ago

@butoerugabriel
maybe we will, but i don't like the old style we want a clone, not a app which is nothing like the original

Tourniquet88 commented 8 years ago

While it would be great to have the real game here, let's face it's not. Why not give it a more distinct look like this?

And for windows phone lovers it would be nice to add a dark theme :P

LaurensvanVliet commented 8 years ago

No please don't do this,

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

I actually like some of the animations. It would be a pretty good thing to do

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

I've gotta say, a dark theme is a nice addition over the original. aside from that, as stock as possible. Then we can always have forks for those who want that :)

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

No forget as stock as possible, we are not gonna do that. Make it better, animated pokemon in the nearby list looks more alive. I'm gonna try to implement those

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

Lol. okay boss. As you wish. You're the dev after all... oh wait you aren't.

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

That doesn't mean that I cant implement it (: It is opensource ;)

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

Sorry for begin an asshole. That comment just annoyed me a little. Isn't it better to keep the original project as close to the official as possible, then have a cool forked version of it too for those who want it? I think that would be the smartest move.

I would even consider using the forked version myself, but the original one should be "an official clone" for those who simply want official PoGO on thier Windows Phones

Tourniquet88 commented 8 years ago

But isn't the chance of getting in trouble even higher if you just "clone" it than to make something original?

If you even use their images, I can't imagine it staying anywhere for a long time, since you basically publish their content...but if you use images you can actually use from free sites for example, the chance is much lower.

ghost commented 8 years ago

I like the sprites, but how much would that affect battery consumption?

gabrielbutoeru commented 8 years ago

In my opinion "an official clone" without 3D animations, 3D models and AR will always be a little bit "sad" to use. We have to use Nintendo/Niantic/PokemonCompany material, but if you use material from the official app just to have something that looks like it you will sound something like "Hey! Look at me, I'm kinda poor but I wanna play too".

Tourniquet88 commented 8 years ago

Nintendo has no rights whats so ever on Pokemon go.....and the Pokemon Company doesn't have so much influence either, mostly its Niantec.

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@Tourniquet88 The chanches are the same. This app includes enough copyrighted content to take it down no matter what. In my opinion, we should go all in, or nothing at all (Nothing at all means changing all pokemons, thier look, names, pokeballs and virtually everything which would make the game boring)

ghost commented 8 years ago

@igoliver Seriously it hasn't even been a day and we're already saying stuff like this? C'mon man.

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

@theafterdeath He is actually right...

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@theafterdeath This is why people say the Windows Phone community is toxic.

Unfortunately, this github page is already filled with whiny 12-year-olds that just want Pokemon GO on thier phone. It doesn't really surprise me, but definitely does disappoint me.

You're right. It isn't even a day, and people have to start calling each other things, just because they disagree with one in a discussion.

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@igoliver how much have you contributed to the project again? Ah now I remember. Nothing.

Just because you disagree with me, doesn't mean you have to start calling me things. This is an discussion. If you can't handle begin confronted with opposite opinions, please pull out your Ethernet cable.

ghost commented 8 years ago

So much for this collaborative community...

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@igoliver Seems like I am the adult here, you know.

That was a sarcastic joke pointing at his tone.

I even apologised in the comment after when I realized I was a little too childish. By the way, you know this behaviour is banable, right?

I would guess your age around.... 11-12 years. I remember how I acted at that age and you definitely seem to be similar to that. Now I'm just waiting for you to insult my mother or other family member with a sexual and inappropriate insult, then it will be officially confirmed. :)

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@theafterdeath Don't worry. I'm trying to behave, but a little fun never hurts ;)

I am trying to co tribute as much as I can, but I literally just got Visual Studio repaired so I didn't have time with the new login screen yet.

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

@denaxin @igoliver Both just stop. You guys are proving nothing with this. Whoever of you guys says that he is the adult is just stupid, because both of you don't know when to stop. If you can do something to make it better, do it. If you are only here to fight with each other, leave it.

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@Kaankehh I'm just messing with him. I'm bored while Visual Studio is loading (I have a celeron :c)

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

@denaxin it doesn't look like messing to me. If we just work hard together and try not to play the boss this can work, I think?

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@Kaankehh Meh. It is. If I really wanted to confront him I'd throw like a thousand links that confirm my comments, just like a casual redditor would.

No but seriously, I couldn't care less about this pointless discussion. I'm here to contribute ;)

Kaankehh commented 8 years ago

@denaxin You aren't contributing by messing with people or holding a discussion with other people.

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@Kaankehh You're right. I'll get back to work

Tourniquet88 commented 8 years ago

In any event, I still don't agree with you @denaxin :p

I do think very well that it makes a huge difference where the Images are coming from, how the app is named etc.

I do think @ST-Apps has named this game PoGo UWP for a reason instead of "Pokemon Go", because of copyright issues. Especially the Windows Phone community knows a lot about 3rd Party Apps and most of them don't have the name of the nativ app.

While you're right that this app has to have copyrighted content in any ways, I do think it matters a lot if you take images from Niantic, Pokemon Company or 3rd Party Pokemon Images found on the internet. So I would still suggest the last one.

Same goes for other images, If we want this game to stay alive it would be best to create the "other" images ourselves.

kankiro commented 8 years ago

Kkkkk I like this

LaurensvanVliet commented 8 years ago

I think @denaxin is right somebody can fork it for the ones who love GBA style. Remember there are also people playing who don't go on github, they just want the app not a whole different ui. i think they want it to be as close as possible to the Original.

ST-Apps commented 8 years ago

Oh dear, what's happening there? Seems like some comments are gone and I can't see how the discussion got so far.

@butoerugabriel the idea is not bad at all, because we'll never get the animated 3D models and using those animates sprites will surely add some "life" to the game. Now, if you have all the 151 sprites with a good resolution (meaning no less than 400x400) it could be done, but not on the very next release. If someone wants to do it, please fork the project and then submit a PR (maybe attaching a screenshot of how it's looking).

DennisBednarz commented 8 years ago

@ST-Apps I reported @igoliver so that may be why they're missing

DMNerd commented 8 years ago

I think this is great idea as well. We do not need to have the clone of the official app. If Nintendo and Niantic think we are different enough not to release their game on our platform, we should show them we can do it in our style, atleast that's my opinion

brunomenezes66 commented 8 years ago

At least for the "nearby" menu I think its a good idea, but for the rest i wouldn`t consider do nothing about it yet, remember this still has the "beta" tag XD

gabrielbutoeru commented 8 years ago

@ST-Apps I made the gif adding the grass as a background for a div and putting the Squirtle gif in the middle. I understand that it's not a priority, but it shouldn't be hard :) . We could load a "1:1 clone" or the "GBA like" UI with a switch. I'll try to work on it, or at least I will search some good looking sprites ;) .

DMNerd commented 8 years ago

This could be a cool feature. It would be also great if you could have the ability to switch between the animated and normal sprites.

Dragoncat4 commented 8 years ago

I think using some kind of animations will be necessary for gym battles. You have to know when attacks and power attacks are cast, so you know when to dodge. So the animations at the beggining of this topic might be the only possible approach to handle gym battkes well. However that's way ahead :)

gabrielbutoeru commented 8 years ago

Ok, I found some material. The sprites are in a really low resolution, but I could try to fix it :) . I'll tell you ASAP ;) .

TheMidasCreed commented 8 years ago

This. Needs. To. Be. A. Thing @ST-Apps

majorguk commented 8 years ago

This is a brilliant idea, will be keeping an eye out for this build!

A lot of potential for the old school fans here! Would almost bring the childhood game to life more than the original app i think!

deivisonrpg commented 8 years ago

Brilliant idea.
