My plan for the May 9th presentations (at Wistariahurst) is that we will unveil the scanned and curated Parsons Paper Company register project, with each of you briefly describing some part of the process and/or some insights/extensions that leverage this resource.

In addition, each of you will be describing your other project (to be determined over the coming weeks) about a different resource that you will be making accessible in some fashion and connecting to the history (modern or 19th century) of Holyoke. I see these as the main deliverables for the class.

From our class yesterday, we discussed:

  1. what's needed to get the Parsons Paper Company register scans curated and accessible as TIFF and JPG files (with full metadata)
  2. identify some analyses that each of our three teams could be doing to explore some questions that could be answered with the register (#5 explore individuals and addresses, #7 trends in employment [and different groups of employees that could be inferred], and #8 development of interactive and dynamic ways to engage with the register [this is on hold for now]).

The focus of the course for the next week will be to substantially complete the work needed on the Parsons Paper Company register in advance of our meeting in Holyoke on 2/21.
