In order to add more impact to fail state (both in story mode and contracts), it would be good to add more difference.
Here I am suggesting an overlay with a darker (maybe black) color, with the fail text centered, and a short pause with either automatic cooldown (TimerComponent) or a Call To Action button (like in stories, but maybe a little bit longer this time.
Once there are inventory, coins and a team, maybe losing something from one of those could be good to add impact too.
