Tomi (like a few other drumkit modules) is sample based. I don’t like to modify the samples wherever possible.
Is that a common convention in the vcv/modular world? Honestly it's enough of a turnoff to just use some other percussive module instead when in a creative flow. Would you consider normalizing the samples?
when drumkit was created, there was no "common convention" in the vcv world :)
as for eurorack, samples are typically played at the volume they are sampled at.
I'll noodle on it before making a decision (why I left this issue open), but in the meantime, you're welcome to normalize them yourself for local use: https://github.com/SVModular/DrumKit/tree/v1.0/res/samples/tomi - they're just raw samples that can be opened with any audio editor (such as audacity or its replacement tenacity), and save them as the same name/format in your plugins folder over the top of the existing files.
I'm not sure why, but relative to other SV drums (and vcv offerings in general), Tomi is super quiet and needs some serious gain to pierce through the mix. Is this intentional?
