For fields smaller than about 2 grid pitch sizes, it may make more sense to move the stage in x and y and image the translation of a bead, pollen grain, or other specimen, over image. The use the stage coords and image translation to calculate mics per pixel. Such code should exist from the OpenStage project. Package it and add it here.
