Many scopes have no PIFOC so this has to be an option

Ah, no, it is already using the coarse z.

Spoke to soon: it's doing a slow z stack with the fast z device...

Nonethless, it seems to run on a rig with no PIFOC. So maybe it's all magically wonderful and correct. Close for now.
