Still a very raw idea, but being able to use onyx with a very minimal software as both:

real-time fixed sensor (tethered to something that talks to the Net)
logging fixed sensor (periodically connected to get the data) seems a good idea.

Log format (CSV) might be something like: header (location, id, calibration...) timestamp,period,counts,cpm timestamp,period,counts,cpm
