configure new Mailchimp list #40

Closed norcross closed 4 years ago

the email signup forms on the site are currently using a "dummy" list. a new list should be created, since the other primary list has other info (donors, contributions, etc) that we aren't collecting on those forms.

To be clear, this form is the one I am referring to.

once this is set up in Mailchimp @seanbonner you can assign it back to me and i will update the IDs in the templates.

I'd prefer not to create a new list, we have the one main list and the other fields are just for our own reference to know where the people came to us from (some are from kickstarter, etc). On the current site we just created a custom form saying which fields we wanted to collect, so I'd rather do the same here and just collect name and email, and ignore the other fields. Otherwise we then have two different lists and need to constantly be merging them or handing them and it creates a ton of extra work for us.

@seanbonner i've updated the form on the site to point to the current active list. can you please confirm the signups work as expected?

seanbonner commented 4 years ago

Nope, it's not working. That takes you to: https://safecast.us9.list-manage.com/subscribe/post?u=628d40c72fc044d6e7a8f1ca5&id=cb0ce9bb96

Which asks for all the database forms.

It should function like on the current site where the only thing people need to put in is their name and email and click submit and then it's done.

ok, i’ll dig further into it. that’s what it was doing with the test list, so i’m not sure (yet) what’s different about this.

seanbonner commented 4 years ago

It’s taking you to a default sign up form, the way we did it on the old site was to create a custom sign up form with only the fields we wanted.

norcross commented 4 years ago

ok. i realized the current site form uses some javascript to separate the single name field into a first and last name before it gets to MailChimp. So I'm going to the same.

the form has been set up and should be working (I tested a few signups)

@seanbonner we need to set in Mailchimp what the "thank you" page will be. this is a URL set inside the Mailchimp settings and can be any URL. it is currently the default MC page.

seanbonner commented 4 years ago

Just tested and it works. We'll design up a better "Thank You" page, but for now that's enough to call this closed.
