The Heroku "GitHub" deployment method does not get the .git folder from the git repository.

Possible workarounds:

Use the Heroku "Heroku Git / CLI" deployment method
Use GitHub workflow with Heroku CLI
Produce git.properties via a GitHub workflow, thereby removing the need for the .git repository for Heroku
