how to install the music program on pc #144

Open Jeremy-181 opened 2 years ago

Jeremy-181 commented 2 years ago

hello everyone,

@Sammy1Am I recentely saw your video about Moppy and I wanted to do it. But I can't open the program for it.

can someone help me?

Sammy1Am commented 2 years ago

What happens when you try to open the program? If a command prompt shows up and quickly disappears, try launching the .bat file from the command line instead to view the error code (though 9 times out of 10 the issue is either you need a more recent version of Java, or JAVA_HOME isn't set correctly).

how do I do that?

Do what?

Open CMD type in sys path to file and it will open it. Ex: C:\Path\To\Folder\Moppy.bat

Jeremy-181 commented 2 years ago

ok I did that but it says this: Schermafbeelding 2021-08-28 112831

Sammy1Am commented 2 years ago

You need a more recent version of Java installed. Download and install the most recent version and you should be fine.

JAVA_HOME may be set to an older version. You can either uninstall the older versions, or make sure you update JAVA_HOME to point to the correct version.

(You may still have to fix JAVA_HOME after uninstalling)

Ok. Do I have to install the newest JDK?

Sammy1Am commented 2 years ago

JRE would be sufficient, but JDK is fine too.

I updated JRE and set the variable for it

Jeremy-181 commented 2 years ago

it still doesn't work :(

Sammy1Am commented 2 years ago

You need to provide us with a little more information. What doesn't work? What do you see happening? What have you tried?

Also, a lot of error messages you might run into aren't Moppy-specific. Try typing some of the error message into Google and see what other people with the same error have done to resolve the problem.

If you're still getting the same error as before: Have you uninstalled all older versions of Java? What is JAVA_HOME set to?

ok here it comes: when I try to run MoppycontrolGUI2.0.bat it shows an error message that it is compiled to a more recent version of Java (55.0). But it says that my computer only recognizes class file versions up to 52.0

JAVA_HOME is set to JRE_HOME C:\progra~1\Java\jre1.8.0_301

Sammy1Am commented 2 years ago

Your JAVA_HOME is pointing to an installation of Java 8 (52), but it needs to point to an installation of Java 11 (55) or newer. If you've installed a newer version of Java, you need to point JAVA_HOME to it.
